Swieler XLR Series

Ten metres.
Stage to front of house.
Mix from the room.

Down off the riser, along the wall and back to the desk. Ten metres lets an operator mix from where the audience actually hears the room — and lets a roving handheld walk into the crowd and back.

Length planner

Which length do you actually need?

Pick where the microphone and the input live. We’ll draw the run, add a metre of dressing slack, and show which Swieler length fits without a coil on the floor.

You need at least
3.6m of cable

Run distance plus ~1 m to dress the cable down a stand, around hardware and into a service loop at the connector.

What’s inside a Swieler lead.

Every layer does a job. Tap a hotspot to see what it is and why it matters for a microphone signal measured in millivolts.

Why XLR stays quiet

Two wires. One signal. Noise cancels itself.

Any cable behaves like an aerial. A balanced line carries the same audio on two conductors with opposite polarity; interference lands on both equally, and the mixer input only responds to the difference — so the hum is subtracted and the voice survives.

  • Pin 2 carries the signal, pin 3 carries its mirror image. Pin 1 is the shield drain to ground.
  • The input subtracts pin 3 from pin 2. Noise that hit both wires the same way disappears. This is common-mode rejection.
  • Spiral shielding does the other half, draining higher-frequency hash to earth before it reaches the pair.

Connectors

Metal housings. Latched, not hoped.

A 3-pin XLR female on the microphone end locks onto the mic; the male end seats into the mixer, interface, stage box or wall plate. The latch means it stays put until you press the release.

  • Passes 48 V phantom power from a mixer or interface to condenser microphones — the standard XLR mic connection.
  • Also carries balanced line level between mixers, processors and powered speakers with XLR inputs.
  • Daisy-chain when you must. Male-to-female means two Swieler leads join end to end for an unplanned extra reach.
Make it last

Coil it right. It pays out flat.

The flexible PVC jacket is chosen so the cable lies down instead of springing back into its last coil. An over-under coil keeps it that way.

STEP 01

First loop over

Hold the female end. Make a natural loop, letting the cable twist the way it wants to.

STEP 02

Second loop under

For the next loop, turn your wrist the other way so the cable crosses under. Alternate over, under, over.

STEP 03

Tie and store

Hook-and-loop tie at the connectors. The coil unrolls in a straight line with no twists — every time.

Service loop at the connectorA tug on the cable should not be a tug on the pins. Leave a small loop at each end.
Cross power at right anglesRun parallel to mains for as little distance as possible; cross it square.
Edges, not diagonalsRoute along walls or under a mat rather than straight across a floor people walk on.

FAQ

Good questions.

Is this a balanced or unbalanced cable?

Balanced. It carries the signal on two conductors of opposite polarity under a spiral shield, terminated in 3-pin XLR male and female connectors, which is the standard for microphones and balanced line-level audio.

What’s the difference between the Swieler lengths?

Only the length. Every lead in the range uses the same OFC conductors, spiral shield, metal housings and PVC jacket — choose from 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 m to match the run. The planner above shows which one fits.

Will it carry phantom power to a condenser mic?

Yes. A standard 3-pin XLR cable passes 48 V phantom power from the mixer or interface to the microphone.

Can I join two cables for a longer run?

Yes — male-to-female connectors chain end to end. For a permanent or regular run it is better to buy one continuous length so there is no joint to fail or trip on.

Can I use it to connect an amplifier to a passive speaker?

No. XLR microphone cable is for mic and line-level signals. Amplifier-to-passive-speaker runs need speaker cable rated for the power.

Does a long run pick up hum?

Far less than an unbalanced lead would. The balanced pair cancels interference that lands on both conductors, and the spiral shield drains the rest. Keep parallel runs beside mains cable short and cross power leads at right angles.

Swieler XLR Microphone Cable 10m

At ten metres the cable stops being an accessory and becomes infrastructure. This is the run from a stage to a front-of-house position in a small or mid-sized venue: down off the riser, along the wall or under a mat, and back to the desk. It is the length that lets an operator mix from where the audience actually hears the room instead of from the side of the stage.

Corporate AV lives on this length too. Conference rooms and function spaces put the technician at the back, behind the last row, which is precisely where a presenter's microphone cannot reach without help. A ten-metre lead covers a typical boardroom or breakout room end to end, and covers a lectern-to-desk run in a hall with room to route around doorways rather than straight across the floor.

Roving microphones are the other common use. Q and A sessions, school assemblies, auction nights — anywhere a handheld has to be walked into the audience and back while staying plugged in. Ten metres gives a presenter meaningful freedom to move without a radio system.

Handling a longer run

Longer cables reward a little care. Dress the run along a wall or under a rubber mat rather than diagonally across a floor, leave a service loop at the connector end so a tug on the cable is not a tug on the pins, and coil it the same way every time so it pays out flat. The flexible PVC jacket on this cable is chosen to make that routine easy rather than a fight.

Electrically it is identical to the shorter Swieler leads: a balanced pair of oxygen-free copper conductors under full spiral shielding, terminated in 3-pin XLR male and female connectors with metal housings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between this and the other Swieler XLR cable lengths?

Same balanced OFC (oxygen-free copper) construction and connectors — just choose the length that matches your run, from 1m up to 20m. This is the 10m length.

Is this a balanced or unbalanced cable?

Balanced, with male-to-female XLR connectors, suitable for microphones and balanced line-level audio equipment.
